SUMMARY

The Contractor shall provide laboratory support by performing next generation sequencing, real time PCR, Nanostring, basic/advanced sample processing, microbiology and other molecular diagnostic techniques. The Contractor shall execute scientific studies for PIs with minimal supervision, analyze and provide summarized data, maintain laboratory equipment and suite integrity, and facilitate execution of mission critical research. BPRP enrollment is required and must be held and maintained.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following:

Assist in the development of and independently execute protocols for biomarker verification

Perform sample processing and experiments at BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4

Perform next generation sequencing, Nanostring immunological and inflammatory panels, Luminex-based platforms, miRNA quantification

Conduct experiments for detection of etiologic agents within animal and clinical samples

Perform highly detailed clinical sample testing in support of priority BSL-2, BSL-3, and/or BSL-4 animal studies or human clinical sample surveillance studies

Perform laboratory work requiring expertise in small animal handling

Train new laboratory members in BSL-2, BSL-3, and/or BSL-4 in project-specific laboratory techniques and methods

Contribute to the collection, management, and analysis of Biomarker Data for assigned projects

Consolidate and analyze biomarker data in support of technical reports, presentations, and manuscripts

Present protocols and data generated at weekly meetings

Author, review, and revise Biomarker SOPs

Assist with preparation of technical reports and manuscripts for publication

Contribute to a Biomarker Quarter and Annual Reports for associate projects

Perform other job-related duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

This position will not have supervisory authority

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Master's degree or the equivalent in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Biology, or a related field

Background in Pharmacology preferred

5+ years lab experience

US citizenship required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be experienced with both in vitro and in vivo studies with preferred experience in BSL-2, BSL-3, and/or BSL-4 biocontainment labs

Experience working with clinical and non-clinical samples required

Expertise in small animal handling preferred

Experience with Molecular diagnostic techniques, including the following:

DNA/mRNA purification

Nanotrap Concentration

Nanostring immunological and inflammatory panels

Luminex-based platforms

miRNA quantification

QIAgen EZ1, MagNA Pure, and manual column-based techniques

Next Generation Sequencing

Real-time PCR

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Excellent organizational skills

Multi-task in a high paced environment

Works well with others

Prior experience in BSL-2, BSL-3, and/or BSL-4 biocontainment labs preferred

Ability obtain and maintain BPRP status

Successfully pass a federal background check and a drug screen

Cherokee Federal employees are included as covered employees in U.S. Presidential Executive Order 14042, which mandates Covid vaccines for federal contractors. Work is conducted in a climate-controlled office or laboratory

Work in biocontainment laboratory with required personal protective equipment
