Providence is calling a Clinical Educator Behavioral Health/ Emergency Dept. to Providence Little Company of Mary San Pedro Hospital in San Pedro, CA.

We are seeking a Clinical Educator - serves as a consultant, educator, researcher, and clinical expert for the medical center and service area. Demonstrates expertise in the care of age specific patient population according to clinical specialty, and participates in related continuing education.

In this position you will:

Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, improving organization performance program, and safety standards

Serve as a resource person and a role model in specialty area. Supports and facilitates nursing assessment, care planning, patient/family education, and clinical problem solving for complex or difficult care situations

Assess staff educational needs; develops and implements programs/learning activities to meet these needs. Monitors outcomes of learning as evidenced by competency assessment

Develop, organizes, conducts, and supervises programs for orientation, training, in service, and continuing education based on learning needs assessments

Participate with student instructors in planning and evaluating clinical assignments for students in area of specialization

Act as a resource in area of specialty for orientation preceptors, preceptees, Transition into Practice and students. Collaborates with others in the development of brochures and posters to publicize educational programs/learning activities according to organizational guidelines

Coordinate with outside educators to present courses within the medical center or service area. Recruits employees with specific expertise to present or assist in presenting courses. Models, teaches, and supports others in developing lesson planning and presentation skills, including the use of audiovisual equipment, computers, and other aids

Schedule classes, according to Providence Health System priorities. Maintains required course documentation including accurate records of personnel attendance/participation in educational programs

Utilize clinical information systems to manage data, monitor outcomes and develop reports Required qualifications for this position includes:

Participate in staff learning needs assessments

Adhere to the documentation system within Education Department of continuing education activities according to BRN and department guidelines

Investigate new products, equipment, and techniques; participates in and/or coordinates clinical trials, in services, and competency assessments; evaluates and makes recommendations to appropriate committees

Assist leaders in developing competency assessment tools

Collaborate with other health professionals and partners to design, develop, and evaluate patient educational programs, materials, and related staff protocols

Collaborate with Clinical Academy to facilitate TIP programs, design, develop, revise, implement, instruct, and evaluate educational programs, and materials

Consult with individuals and multi disciplinary groups on health care issues, demonstrating effective use of change and systems theory in the process

Facilitate development, implementation, review, and revision of department, medical center, and service area policies, procedures, and standards of care related to areas of expertise.

Act as a participant, resource, and facilitator for department, specialty area, medical center, and service area performance improvement and compliance activities. Have knowledge of tracer methodology

Maintain current knowledge regarding Joint Commission, CMS and regulatory bodies including knowledge of tracer methodology. Commits to actively participate in ongoing compliance and resolution.

Utilize nursing theory and current research to support and improve health care practice. Conveys nursing theories and research findings to staff. Participates in conducting clinical and health care delivery system research

Participate in professional organizations and community activities

Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops. Demonstrates understanding of Association of Nursing Professional Development model and meets role responsibilities

Attend meetings as required, and participates on committees as directed

Other duties as assigned

Following training will serve as adjunct simulation faculty for regional simulation.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position includes:

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

Coursework/Training in Advanced study in area of clinical specialization

Coursework/Training in Course work in adult education principles

Coursework/Training in Performance Improvement and research methodology

Current California Registered Nurse License

BLS

ACLS required for specialty educator serving Critical Care, Progressive Care, Emergency Dept. areas

New graduates - within 365 days from date of hire

Transfers - within 180 days of completion of clinical orientation

PALS within 180 days of hire for educators serving in Emergency Dept.,NICU, Pediatrics

New graduate - 365 days from date of hire

Transfer - within 180 days of completion of clinical orientation

NRP for employees in L&D, NICU, Nursery, Postpartum

Postpartum - within 90 days from date of hire

Other areas - within 180 days of completion of clinical orientation

New graduates - 365 days from date of hire

3 years Acute hospital experience in clinical specialty area

1 year of Experience in adult education, patient/family education

Ability to communicate with all levels of staff

Excellent oral, written and presentation skills at all levels of an organization.

Demonstrated ability to teach individuals and groups at all levels of the organization.

Demonstrated leadership skills

Demonstrated direct patient care and clinical consultation skills

Curriculum design and evaluation skills

Ability to organize and manage multiple concurrent projects and utilize human and other resources effectively

Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence / motivate staff in the pursuit of improvement

Preferred qualifications for this position includes:

Master's Degree in Nursing Or Will accept current enrollment in Master's Degree program.

Nursing specialty certification and expected within two years

Minimum 1 year experience in Behavioral Health

Emergency Dept experience a plus
