Job Description:

SummaryProvides administrative and clerical support to the Department of Veterinary Pathology in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University. Receives and responds to routine correspondence following established procedures.

The Department of Veterinary Pathology is home to fourteen faculty members, twenty of staff members, and twelve graduate students/pathology resident trainees. We are the smallest department in the college and carry a triad of duties in teaching, research, and professional practice. We provide biopsy, necropsy, clinical pathology and parasitology services to the college teaching hospital and practitioners throughout the state and Midwest.

Our role in the veterinary curriculum is large, with eight required courses in the professional curriculum and numerous graduate and undergraduate courses. Our clinical work drives our teaching and research missions; there are multiple active research labs throughout our department. The offices and labs for this department are split between two floors, with research and clinical service labs, offices, teaching labs, and a conference room. Our pathology residency training program is known for producing high level pathologists who enter academia, contract research organizations and the pharmaceutical industry. People are the most important resource and product of our department; providing excellent professional service, teaching and research are our shared goals.Example of Duties Conducts basic research, gathers data, and prepares reports. Arranges calls and schedules meetings. Assists with making basic travel reservations and itineraries. Participates in regularly scheduled team meetings. Types correspondence, reports, or other documents. Edits documents for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors.Level Guidelines Entry level position acquiring job skills and learning standard operating procedures and policies to complete tasks Works under relatively close supervision and receives guidance on new work assignments Works on assignments which are routine in nature requiring limited judgment Refers difficult or less routine issues to supervisor or higher-level staff for assistance May provide guidance to students
